About the author
Hallo!
My life has been quite a surprise to me! In 1980 I was the accidental co-founder and of the children’s charity Whizz Kidz, later becoming its CEO. I had no background or knowledge about charities but from that small beginning Whizz Kidz has raised over £150 million to provide mobility equipment for more than 26,000 disabled children and young people in the UK, whilst directly supporting more than 46,000 young wheelchair users to live the best possible life.
Whizz-Kidz changed the lens through which I saw the world, and I started encouraging individuals, families and companies to support inspirational NGOs and social enterprises making a positive difference, both in the UK and globally. Today my wife and I carry on this work as partners in Our Generous Gene, connecting initiatives changing the world with sources of expertise, knowledge, contacts and funds. I’ve found that being able to help others having a challenging time is not only fun but can be done quietly and, for me, is hugely personally fulfilling.
I am also pleased to have helped co-create, with and for Weatherbys Private Bank, a series of highly successful conferences focussing on the future world we wish to see and those who are out there doing it. Creating the Future brings together some of today’s leading minds to explore how we can create a better future together.
